Reap New Opportunities for COP

If you have patients in home health care, billing Medicare for keeping tabs on them is easier than ever. The 2005 physician fee schedule final rule says you can bill for care plan oversight (G0179- G0180 ) even if a provider other than the one who certified the patient for home health provides the CPO.

This rule opens the door for non-physician practitioners such as nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists to bill for CPO. Physician assistants also can provide the service, but can't bill for CPO on their own. NPPs can't certify patients for home care, but now they'll be able to provide CPO for patients whom the physician has certified.
