Say Goodbye To Your Part B Carrier In Six States Next Year

The first combined Part A/Part B Medicare contractor will take effect in July 2007, covering Arizona, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and Utah, CMS officials told the June 27 Physician Open Door Forum. CMS released a request for proposals in September 2005 and expects to announce a winner soon.

At the ODF, CMS officials also clarified that:

• Not all radiology codes in the 70000 series will be affected by the discount for multiple scans on contiguous body parts and the outpatient PPS cap. For imaging codes whose work or practice-expense RVUs change thanks to the recent proposal,  reimbursement won't be allowed to exceed the outpatient PPS level.

•  A non-physician practitioner can bill for the oncology demonstration project on an incident-to basis.
