Pathology/Lab Coding Alert

Clip-and-Save Chart:

Cross-Reference Your Lab Tests to CPT 2005 Genetic-Test Modifiers

Post this chart in your lab for easy reference to the new genetic-testing code modifiers. Notice that CPT organizes the modifiers by disease category.

To allow for anticipated rapid expansion of solid-tumor genetic tests, CPT Codes assigns two numerals to these tests: 0 and 1. On the other hand, CPT assigns two disease types to Category 9 because of little-expected growth for genetic testing in those categories. Category 9 includes tests for metabolic-pharmacogenetics and dysmorphology.
