Pathology/Lab Coding Alert

Medicare Payment Change How Will You Fare?

If you do lots of fine needle aspiration (FNA) surgical procedures, Pap interpretations, and flow cytometry cell marker studies, you may come out smelling like a rose under Medicares 2003 Physician Fee Schedule. Look at the following table, which shows the total nonfacility relative value unit (RVU) impact on selected procedures, to see how your practice might fare. You can access a complete list of RVUs in the Dec. 31, 2002, Federal Register on the Internet at the following address: http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/14mar20010800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/2002/pdf/02-32503.pdf.
