Pediatric Coding Alert

Correction:

Emergency Visits

The November 2000 Pediatric Coding Alert contained a typographical error in the reader question Emergency Visits. It mistakenly said, Code 99253 is for pure tone audiometry (threshold); air and bone. Code 92553 is the correct code. It also said, Bone thresholds are obtained in a similar manner to 99552 ... The correct code is CPT 92552 .

The answer also mistakenly said to use modifier -51 if the procedure is performed on only one ear. That is incorrect. You should use modifier -52 (reduced services) if the procedure is performed on only one ear. We apologize for the error.
