Check out these answers to the review of systems (ROS) quiz on page 20. Remember, each scenario has a different ROS level; one is problem-pertinent, one is extended, and one is complete. 

Read on to see how you did on the quiz!

Scenario 1: This is an extended ROS, as the provider reviewed seven systems, confirms From Cynthia A. Swanson, RN, CPC, CEMC, CHC, CPMA, senior manager of healthcare consulting for Seim Johnson in Omaha, Neb. The ROS included:

  • Constitutional; 
  • eyes; 
  • ears, nose, mouth, throat; 
  • gastrointestinal;
  • integumentary;
  • psychiatric; and
  • respiratory. 

Scenario 2: This is a problem-pertinent ROS, as the provider reviewed a single system: constitutional.

Scenario 3: This is a complete ROS, as the provider reviewed some systems and made the statement “remainder of systems negative giving him a complete system review.
