READER QUESTIONS:

Code Each Unit for Multiple +90472s

Question: We often administer multiple vaccines during a patient's visit, but I am not sure how to handle multiple instances of +90472. Should we bill the initial +90472 and then list additional vaccines with +90472 and a modifier? Or should we file +90472 and include the number of units we're linking to this administration fee,but not include a modifier?Georgia SubscriberAnswer: Report +90472 (Immunization administration [includes percutaneous, intradermal, subcutaneous, or intramuscular injection]; each additional vaccine [single or combination vaccine/toxoid] [List separately in addition to code for primary procedure]) once and note the number of times it applies for the total of units. For example, if you administer five vaccines, code +90472 x 5. You do not need to attach a modifier.
