ASHA Offers SLP Medical Review Guidelines

Avoid payer problems with this go-to guide.

No one likes fighting with claims reviewers or insurance payers over payment for medically necessary services like speech therapy.

Good news: The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) has released medical review guidelines to help health insurance plan medical directors, claims reviewers, public policy representatives, and practices understand what's covered, what's not covered, and why.

The guide contains key policy information including "provider qualifications, descriptions of services, standard practices, documentation of services, and treatment efficacy data," ASHA noted in a May 9 release.
