In the November 2000 Physical Medicine & Rehab Coding Alert, the reader question Billing OT Evaluation With ADL Training on page 87 should have stated that the occupational therapist (OT) must perform the occupational therapy evaluation (CPT 97003 ) personally. In most states, an OT assistant is licensed to provide most treatment codes, including 97535 (self care/home management training [e.g., activities of daily living (ADL) and compensatory training, meal preparation, safety procedures, and instructions in use of adaptive equipment] direct one-on-one contact by provider, each 15 minutes).
