News Briefs:

Cross Your Fingers for a Fee Schedule Fix That Sticks

Tired of your Medicare pay being doomed to drop? If HR 4213 makes it to law, the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor would be in the green for three and a half years.

Currently, Medicare providers will be slammed with a 21.29 percent cut in Medicare payments starting June 1.

Details: HR 4213, The American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010, proposes positive Medicare pay updates in 2010 and 2011 and then moves toward a formula that the House's health care reform bill proposed, points out the American Physical Therapy Association's weekly newswire, News Now.

Rates would, then, continue to increase for 2012 and 2013 if spending growth on physician services stays within reasonable limits, with some added wiggle room for primary and preventive care, News Now continued. After 2013, rates would return to their current law levels.
