If your business name and your legal name are not consistent, be prepared to face NPI troubles soon. CMS is contacting therapy practices to verify that the data they've submitted to the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) is accurate, according to the June 13th edition on PT Bulletin Online, the American Physical Therapy Association's newswire. CMS is matching NPPES information with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) data, and if your employer identification number in NPPES is not consistent with your IRS data, CMS could deactivate your NPI.
