Heads Up: IRF Coverage Requirements Are Out

If you're an inpatient rehab facility director waiting to hear more details following the whopping changes the 2010 IRF PPS rule implements, they're finally here. On Oct. 23, CMS released its final IRF coverage requirements in Medicare Transmittal 112, reflecting revisions to Section 110 of the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual.

The new coverage requirements will be effective for IRF discharges occurring on or after Jan. 1, 2010.

Meanwhile, CMS issued a notice to rescind Health Care Financing Administration Ruling 85-2 (HCFAR 85- 2) when the new coverage requirements take effect, according to PT Bulletin Online.
