Question: During radiological assessment in a patient with prostate cancer, our physician noted bone metastasis. How can we report this diagnosis?

Answer: You report diagnosis codes for the metastasis as well as the primary tumor. In the description provided here, when you are reporting prostate cancer that has metastasized to the bones, you’ll report

C79.51 (Secondary malignant neoplasm of bone) for the site of the metastasis in addition to C61 (Malignant neoplasm of prostate) for the primary tumor of the prostate.
