Consider Cost of Passing Fees to Patients
Question: Our practice is considering accepting credit cards for our patients’ encounter transactions. Can we pass the credit card processing fee onto them? Many patients are already upset about the expenses they’re personally responsible for in healthcare situations, and a processing fee may cause some hard feelings. Some practices accept credit cards and just eat the fees as one price of doing business. If you do choose to accept credit card payments and want the patents to pay the processing fee, consider posting a sign saying so, so patients can make an informed decision when choosing their form of payment.
