READER QUESTIONS:

Don't Write Off Non-Par Medicaid Bills

Question: I was told that if a patient has Medicaid (which we do not participate in) we cannot bill the patient for the medical services, and that we have to write off the bill. Is this true? Delaware Subscriber Answer: If you do not participate in Medicaid, you do not have to write off the bill. You can bill the patient. Many Medicaid patients, however, will not be financially able to pay the bill. If you practice in an area with a high population of Medicaid patients, you should consider participating to ensure that you will get some payment for services your physicians provide to Medicaid patients.
