Match New Infusion Codes to Outdated Ones

Question: I heard that CMS infusion codes G0345-G0350 are only valid for dates of service in 2005. Should I not use these codes on claims in 2006?

Answer: That is correct. CPT's new IV infusion administration codes for 2006 (90760-90768) replace CMS- corresponding codes for 2005 (G0345-G0350). When CMS created the infusion G codes last year, the agency alerted providers that the new codes would be interim until 2006.

Medicare issued the G codes to comply with the Medicare Modernization Act, which required a review of the current codes. The AMA's CPT Editorial Panel revamped the codes but didn't complete the changes in time to include the new infusion codes in CPT 2005.

Instead of waiting until 2006 for the revamped CPT codes, Medicare thought it was necessary to incorporate the changes for 2005. Now that CPT 2006 codes exist, you should use these codes for all insurers.

Starting Jan. 1, you can quickly submit infusion claims using the correct CPT codes if you use this chart, which ties deleted G and CPT codes to their new counterpart.
