Gear Up on ADD/ ADHD Types

Since the type of ADD/ ADHD plays a vital role in selecting an accurate diagnosis using ICD-10 codes, you'll stand a better chance of nailing the right diagnosis codes with this refresher:

  • Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive type -- Patient shows signs of hyperactivity and impulsiveness but not signs of inattentiveness.The associated signs and symptoms have been present for a period of more than 6 months and have been significantly causing impairment in performance and behavior;
  • Predominantly inattentive type -- Patient has signs and symptoms of inattention but does not demonstrate signs and symptoms of hyperactivity or impulsiveness. The associated signs and symptoms have been present for more than 6 months, causing behavioral and performance related issues;
  • Combined type -- Patient has signs and symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsiveness, and inattention for a period of more than 6 months, affecting behavior and performance.
