Pulmonology Coding Alert

Reader Question:

Multiple Allergy Injections

Question: How can we get paid for two or more allergy injections (each different medication)?

Arizona Subscriber

Answer: If the patient receives two or more injections, you may bill only 95125 (professional services for allergen immunotherapy in prescribing physicians office or institution, including provision of allergenic extract; two or more injections) or 95117 (professional services for allergen immunotherapy not including provision of allergenic extracts; two or more injections) one time. The value of these codes includes administration of multiple injections.

If you also have provided the allergenic extract, use a code from the range 95144-95170 (professional services for the supervision and provision of antigens for allergen immunotherapy) to be reimbursed for that portion of the service. These codes should be billed for the entire amount prepared when the extracts are originally formulated.
