Placing Patient on O2 = Routine Service

Question:I've found out we have been charging O2 set up/installation for inpatient with the wrong CPT. However, I can't find a code to assign it, all I've found is HCPCS codes for the supplies. Is there a CPT for oxygen set up for inpatient or observation, or is this a bundled service?New Mexico SubscriberAnswer:You won't find any code to place the patient on oxygen, particularly for inpatients. Payers consider these services as part of the routine service performed in the hospital and bundle them into the DRG payment. They are not eligible for separate physician payment. You should report supplies, when appropriate, as durable medical equipment provided to outpatients.
