MPFS 2010:

Expect a 4-Year CT and MR TC Fee Cut From CMS

Other equipment's fees may face the chopping block in the future. CMS decided against a blanket budget-busting equipment-utilization change for imaging equipment, but computed tomography and magnetic resonance equipment couldn't escape the dreaded fee reducer. The final Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) in comment period announced that CMS will increase the equipment use rate to 90 percent for diagnostic CT and MR equipment priced at more than $1 million. By assuming a higher utilization rate, CMS can justify lowering the technical component (TC) reimbursement because it assumes the equipment cost is spread over more services. You haven't heard the end of this, though.
