News Brief:

New Identity for HCFA

Headlining Medicare-related news this summer has been the announcement of a new name for the agency historically known as HCFA. At a press conference June 14, secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, Tommy Thompson, announced the organization would now be called the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). In his remarks, Thompson said the name better reflects the mission of the agency, underscores an increased emphasis on responsiveness to beneficiaries and providers, and confirms the agencys commitment to improving the quality of healthcare that beneficiaries receive in all parts of Medicare and Medicaid.
