Radiology Coding Alert

Reader Question:

Tomogram of Wrist

Question: Recently, we conducted a tomogram of the wrist, which was done in a single plane (anteroposterior [AP] and lateral views). Can we bill 76100 twice, or can it be reported only once because the views were taken of the same body section?   Minnesota Subscriber   Answer: Body section radiography (tomography) is coded per body part and not per view. A tomograph of the wrist (76100, radiologic examination, single plane body section [e.g., tomography], other than urography) should be reported only once, no matter how many views were required to arrive at a diagnosis.
