Reader Question:
Ultrasounds Don't Require Contrast
Published on Tue Sep 23, 2003
Question: Is there a code for a gallbladder ultrasound without contrast? New Hampshire Subscriber Answer: The ultrasound CPT Codes are not dependent on contrast, so you should report the same code whether or not the radiologist uses contrast. If you performed the ultrasound on the gallbladder only, you should report 76705 (Ultrasound, abdominal, B-scan and/or real time with image documentation; limited [e.g., single organ, quadrant, follow-up]).
