Reader Questions:

Require More Details for CT Coding

Question: How should I report a CT with 100 mL of Omnipaque 300? Utah Subscriber Answer: To choose the proper code, you need to know the CT's anatomic area and the Omnipaque's administration route. For example, for a head CT, you'd choose from 70450-70470 (Computed tomography, head or brain ...). To decide whether to report the CT with contrast or without, you need to know the administration method. Oral and rectal administration don't count as "with contrast" under CPT guidelines. To choose a "with contrast" code, the contrast must be intravascular, intra-articular, or intrathecal. If you're reporting the contrast also, choose 100 units of Q9967 (Low osmolar contrast material, 300-399 mg/ml iodine concentration, per mL).
