"There has to be communication, coder-to-coder or biller-to-biller, that modifier -62 is being used to make sure the claims correspond" sending in mismatched claims because of a lack of communication is one of the biggest mistakes coders make when submitting claims for joint procedures, says Margaret Lamb, RHIT, CPC, with Great Falls Clinic in Great Falls, Mont. Coordinating this with the claim submitted by the ob-gyn and making sure both claims are filed in the same manner will help to reduce claim denials and delayed payments.
