Correction:

BPH Diagnosis for PSA

An article in the September 2004 issue of the Urology Coding Alert, "BPH With Obstruction Added to Diagnosis List for PSA," stated that CMS would add ICD-9 Codes 600.01 (Hypertrophy [benign] of prostate with urinary obstruction) to the list of diagnoses that demonstrate medical necessity for CPT Codes 84152 (Prostate specific antigen [PSA]; complexed), 84153 (... total) and 84154 (... free). However, the national coverage determination that CMS is revising refers only to the total PSA, 84153. Coders should check their local carriers for any coverage decisions affecting 84152 and 84154.
