Reader Question:

Dilation + Replacement = Complicated

Answer: First, report 52000 (Cystourethroscopy [separate procedure]) for the cystoscopy. Use this code whether your urologist performs the endoscopy via the urethra or via a cystostomy site.

Then, report 51710 (Change of cystostomy tube; complicated) for the replacement of the cystostomy tube. This cystostomy tube change is a complicated replacement because of the initial dilation of the cystostomy site.
