Reader Question:

Office Vasectomies

Question: We perform vasectomies in the office. How can we be paid a facility fee?

Vermont Subscriber

Answer: You cant, unless you negotiate this with an individual payer. Medicare will not pay a facility fee for a procedure done in the office. Its a great idea, because it would save money compared to going to a hospital (thats an argument you can use with the payer), and a vasectomy can be done in the office in many cases. But unfortunately, its just not allowed. You can perform the vasectomy in the office, by the way you just cant be paid the facility fee.
