Reader Question:

Zoladex in OPD

Question: How should we bill for giving a Zoladex injection in the hospital outpatient department (OPD)? We are being paid for it in the office, but not in the OPD. Mississippi Subscriber Answer: The hospital bills for the Zoladex. The charge for the nurse giving the injection (96400, Chemotherapy administration, subcutaneous or intramuscular, with or without local anesthesia) is included in the hospital cost report, so you won't receive reimbursement for performing it in the OPD but you don't have to pay any up-front money for the drug, either.
