76080: Don't Miss the Radiology Portion of Fistulogram Coding

Question: How should I code a fistulogram for a patient with a vesicovaginal fistula when the patient also had a cystoscopy?Answer: First, report 52000 (Cystourethroscopy [separate procedure]) for the cystoscopic examination. Then, report 20501 (Injection of sinus tract; diagnostic [sinogram]) for the diagnostic fistulogram. Finally, report 76080 (Radiologic examination, abscess, fistula or sinus tract study, radiological supervision and interpretation) if your urologist performed the interpretation of the fistulogram and documented his findings in the medical records. Append modifier 26 (Professional component) to 76080 to indicate that your urologist performed just the interpretation, not the technical component of the fistulogram.
