Aspire to Prostatic Cyst Coding

Question: My urologist did a prostate ultrasound and found a prostatic cyst. He then aspirated it. What code should I use for aspiration of prostatic cyst? The doctor and I both looked in the CPT book and couldn't find anything.

Iowa Subscriber Answer: Report 10160 (Puncture aspiration of abscess, hematoma, bulla or cyst) for the needle aspiration of the prostatic cyst.

For the diagnostic ultrasound - most likely a transrectal prostatic diagnostic sonogram - report 76872 (Ultrasound, transrectal).

For the transrectal sonographic guidance, report 76942 (Ultrasonic guidance for needle placement [e.g., biopsy, aspiration, injection, localization device], imaging supervision and interpretation).

As a diagnosis code, list ICD-9 code 600.3 (Cyst of prostate).
