Urology Coding Alert

Reader Questions:

Look to 52276 for Holmium Incision

Question: Is there a code for "cystourethroscopy, Holmium incision of urethral stricture with hydrodistention of bladder"?

Texas Subscriber Answer: Assign CPT 52276 (Cystourethroscopy with direct vision internal urethrotomy) for the incision of the urethral stricture, in this case using the Holmium laser. If, as is likely, the patient was under anesthesia in the hospital, report 52260 (Cystourethroscopy, with dilation of bladder for interstitial cystitis; general or conduction [spinal] anesthesia).

Do not report 52281 (Cystourethroscopy, with calibration and/or dilation of urethral stricture or stenosis, with or without meatotomy, with or without injection procedure for cystography, male or female) separately. Code 52281 is bundled into the above codes and cannot be unbundled with any modifier.
