READER QUESTIONS:

Remember Modifier 26 for Radiology Procedures

Question: My urologist documented that he performed "adrenal vein sampling." I know it's a type of biopsy, which I think also has to have radiological intervention, but I'm not sure what codes to use to report the service. How should I report this procedure?

Answer: For adrenal vein sampling, you should report 36500 (Venous catheterization for selective organ blood sampling) first.

Then, you should also report 75893 (Venous sampling through catheter, with or without angiography [e.g., for parathyroid hormone, renin], radiological supervision and interpretation) for the radiological supervision, interpretation and guidance.

Modifier help: Append modifier 26 (Professional component) to 75893 to indicate your urologist provided only the physician component (the administration or interpretation) of the service.
