READER QUESTIONS:

Revise Your Circumcision-Fix Coding

Question: How should I code a circumcision revision the urologist performed on a patient who developed a skin bridge?

Pennsylvania Subscriber
Answer: To determine which code you should report, you'll need more information from the urologist. If the "revision" constituted the urologist performing lysis or excision of penile adhesions, you should use 54162 (Lysis or excision of penile post-circumcision adhesions).

On the other hand, if the "revision" was more complicated, and the urologist performed an actual re-circumcision, you should report 54163 (Repair incomplete circumcision).
