Turn to 55450 for Swollen Penis Reduction

Question: I need help in coding a "reduction of paraphimosis" for a 78-year-old man. The patient had swelling of the foreskin and glands. The operative note states that the urologist "reduced the paraphimosis." What is the proper coding for this procedure? Montana Subscriber Answer: You should report code 54450 (Foreskin manipulation including lysis of preputial adhesions and stretching) for the reduction of a paraphimosis. Use ICD-9 diagnosis 605 (Redundant prepuce and paraphimosis).
