Facility billing for patients that leave without being treated.
My understanding is that the emergency dept. can bill for triage if the pt leaves before treatment. However that same guidance is not issued for urgent care clinics (99212-99215 codes we use for uc). For example the pt comes in, there's a nursing intake note, the pt leaves before seeing the provider because they didn't want to wait. Are we supposed to be billing for triage? I never have, but I'm being told that CMS stated that we can, I'm not finding that information, but I do find that the emergency department can bill in that case. I might have missed it somewhere.
