How often is standard practice for having a patient sign a new consent to treat if ever? The community mental health center I work for is having a huge debate as our front desk supervisor wants to have it done every 2 years, compliance and coding has agreed that if they feel we need it redone it should be every 5 or 10 years, or if the patient stops service and restarts. Thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I have zero medical office experience only insurance side.

This is a legal question so coders and front desk staff shouldn't really be making that decision. The practice should consult the attorney. If the compliance department or director has made a decision or policy that's what should be followed. Especially in the case of mental health and/or the treatment of minors and those that may not be able to make the decision themselves. State health care consent laws would govern this.
