Hello all,

Our practice is new to EMR. At a previous employer, I did not participate in auditing. My question is this: when an outside agency audits claims:

1. Do you print records for the auditor?

2. Do you grant access to your EMR system to the auditor?

Need to put something into effect for our office and need advice.

Thanks,

I would print out the required records. In the "old days" before EMR we would only supply the records requested, we wouldn't give the auditor access to the entire medical records "vault." Giving them a password so they could browse the entire database of EMR would be like giving them free rein.

Just my opinion.

When I do chart reviews for different physicians, I have them print out the material needed to complete the reviews. When the review is completed, I return the copies to the physician's office.

I'm a Medical Auditor with Controls & Compliance's Fraud Department and I only ask for the medical records. I don't ask for access to anyone's programs. :)
