Good Afternoon,
I am looking for some advise on coding Excision of left postaxial Polydactyly type B with traction neurectomy. Our hand surgery is selecting CPT Code 26587 Reconstruction of polydactylous digit, soft tissue and bone , As you know CPT states if only soft tissue is excised use CPT code 11200 Removal of skin tags, multiple fibrocutaneous tags any area: up to and including 15
The surgeon wants to code CPT code 26587 with modifier 52 which I disagree with since no bone is being excised. The surgeon states,
there is a neurovascular component which was treated. performing a traction neurectomy, which is not part of a “skin tag excision”. The traction neurectomy is being performed to prevent postoperative neuroma.
