E/M coding is a skill rarely taught in medical school, which leads to confusion and frustration for physicians. In this webinar, we will discuss how to use clinical scenarios rather than “code-speak” to engage physicians and nonphysician practitioners in helpful discussions about the complexity of the services they render. You will learn how to use EHR tools and concepts to improve documentation and efficiency, thus providing more time for patient care. Finally, we will discuss communication principles that will allow you to break through the barriers between coders and physicians.

About The Author

Deann Tate, CPC, CPMA, CCC, CEMC

Ms. Tate currently serves as Director of Coding Effectiveness for Bon Secours Health System, Inc. She has 19 years of experience in healthcare practice management, coding and compliance. She received her Masters in Health Administration in 2004 from the Medical University of South Carolina and her BS in Business Administration from the College of Charleston in 1986. She has been a Certified Professional Coder since 2000 and is a Certified Professional Medical Auditor, with additional specialty coding credentials in evaluation and management and cardiology coding. She is currently pursuing her Doctor in Health Administration degree, with a focus on information systems.
