ICD-10 Health Plan Training Dates and Opportunities

The AAPC will cover topics for HEALTH PLAN implementation via these methods:

2010:

• Health Plan Implementation distance learning — Order Now!
  Geared toward the health plan this intense curriculum covers all business areas impacted by ICD-10 as well as special modules on ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS. As an added bonus the curriculum contains tools and resources for you to customize for implementation.
• Beginning in April, Onsite 3-Day Implementation Training — Schedule Now!
  Particularly geared toward Health Plans, this onsite training will cover implementation training and guidance, featuring intensive training on ICD-10-CM, structure and guidelines, crosswalking and mapping, along with hands-on exercises using the ICD-10-CM code set. The curriculum will also include an introduction into ICD-10-PCS beneficial for the facility coder if desired.  This will enable any provider location to systematically and cleanly make the switch to ICD-10. • June, National Conference: Two(2) Education Sessions for health plans
  (Regular conference price for members).

2011:

• Specialty-specific Distance Learning (eLearning), Webinars, and Audio Conference Courses
  These courses cover new specialty-specific OB/GYN, Cardiology, Orthopaedics, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, and General Surgery ICD-10 codes. These courses will cover the common procedure codes each specialty will be using as well as how the current method of coding might be impacted such as superbill versus the electronic medical record along with crosswalking and mapping from ICD-9-CM to ICD-10-CM. These courses will contain three modules:.
• ICD-10-CM guidelines (based on the specialty)
• Commonly used codes (based on the specialty)
• Crosswalking and mapping.

• October 1, Proficiency Validation Available
  Proficiency validation will be taken online within the AAPC Member Area. The validation will be composed of 75 questions, timed and open book, online and unproctored. All certified coders are required to pass the validation by September 30, 2014 to maintain certification. The proficiency validation may be taken twice for $60.

• September 30, Proficiency Validation Ends
  Proficiency validation will be taken online within the AAPC Member Area. The validation will be composed of 75 questions, timed and open book. All certified coders are required to pass the validation by September 30, 2014 to maintain certification. The proficiency validation may be taken twice for $60.
