I am looking for guidance regarding the coding of an encounter when a patient comes in for a CBC/CMP and there diagnosis provided is Z79.2 Long term use of antibiotics. The antibiotic level itself is not being tested but it appears to be systemic effects of the long term antibiotic use?
Is it appropriate to add the code Z51.81 Encounter for therapeutic drug level monitoring as first listed? The definition listed under the code is: Drug monitoring: Measurement of the level of a specific drug in the body or measurement of a specifc function to assess the effectiveness of a drug.
