I have found reference to billing nitrous oxide for OB labor situations and the recommendation to use 01999. Our ER physicians are now using nitrous in the emergency room, particularly for pediatric patients, to calm them for treatment and examination. Does anyone have experience with billing nitrous in the ER setting and any info regarding reimbursement? I know the claims will need documentation sent to support the unlisted code (01999), which will be a hassle for the billing department. I am wanting to find out if it is worth the trouble or if we just offer as a self-pay service and skip billing to insurance. Your guidance is appreciated.
