Code-A-Round
Code-A-Round is a 5-note online coding simulation that mimics real-world coding experience. Coders view actual, redacted patient notes online and then input the correct ICD-9-CM, CPT®, and/or HCPCS Level II codes and applicable modifiers for each note. Each correctly coded round is worth one (1) CEU. The answers are not multiple choice – coders must input the correct codes without being able to select from available options. Incorrect answers are flagged for re-coding, but question answers or rationales are not given. In this manner, Code-A-Round attempts to closely simulate the on-the-job environment.
There are fifteen (15) specialties that have Code-A-Round notes. Specialty credential holders will earn specialty CEUs by working through the intricacies of the unique coding, reimbursement and compliance challenges of each patient note. Although designed for specialty credential holders, Code-A-Round CEUs will also satisfy CEU requirements for the CPC, CPC-H and CPC-P credentials. Each online, five-note round should take approximately one hour to complete.

Note: Code-A-Round notes and answers are intended for educational purposes only, not as a reference standard for coding. Each note has been coded twice by independent certified coders and then quality checked for accuracy by a senior coder. However, due to the nature of the coding process, answers should not be considered definitive. The notes and correct answers should not be copied, pasted or otherwise shared with anyone to obtain correct answers or provide correct answers. This includes the use of AAPC forums. Please note that some Code-A-Round operative notes can be difficult. AAPC asks that you exhaust all avenues in your effort to code the notes.
