Summary

Chiropractic services are different from medical services and, as such, cannot be evaluated using the same rules. Chiropractors not only evaluates the patient in the E&M visit but also provides the treatment in a series of treatment visits during an episode of care. Because of this the medical necessity of the care cannot be determined by reviewing a single date of service

In this workshop Dr. Ron Short will explain what constitutes an episode of care in chiropractic and how to properly evaluate the documentation from the episode of care. He will also show you how to properly determine the medical necessity of the chiropractic care rendered.

What you will learn:

  • You will learn how chiropractic documentation is different from medical documentation
  • You will learn how to prove medical necessity for chiropractic services
  • You will learn what information should be included in chiropractic documentation
  • You will learn what deficiencies to identify in chiropractic documentation
  • You will learn that a single chiropractic treatment visit does not have enough information to determine the medical necessity of the care rendered

Why is this topic timely/important?

Considerable resources (time and money) are spent on reviewing and auditing chiropractic documentation only to have denials overturned on appeal. By learning the unique aspects of chiropractic documentation reviews can be more accurate and only target those doctors that are truly outside of the normal parameters.

Who would benefit from this topic?

This workshop is primarily aimed at insurance and Medicare reviewers and auditors.
