The Magic Tales of Modifiers

Summary

Modifiers are used in medical billing and coding all the time. But what exactly do they do? Why do they exist? Well, modifiers are kind of magical. This doesn’t mean that they can levitate a book; this means that they are remarkable and extraordinary. How is that? These two characters indicate that a service or procedure has been altered but not changed in its definition or code. They also provide the ability to respond to payment policy requirements. This workshop will combine lecture, practical application and activities to instruct the learner on appropriate use and application of common modifiers.

What you will learn:

  • The appropriate use and application of modifiers
  • The significance of modifiers in medical coding and billing
  • How modifiers align with payer payment policies
  • The definition and purpose of modifiers by common categories and specialties
  • The association of modifiers and denial resolution
