Question: Which code should I report for a subtotal thyroidectomy?

South Carolina Subscriber Answer: Several surgical coding options apply, depending on whether the case involves malignancy and how involved the procedure becomes. Each of the potential surgical codes crosses to 00320 (Anesthesia for all procedures on esophagus, thyroid, larynx, trachea and lymphatic system of neck; not otherwise specified, age 1 year or older).
