Anesthesia Coding Alert

Reader Questions:

Occipital Lipoma Excision = 00300

Question: How should I report anesthesia during excision of an occipital lipoma?

Virginia Subscriber Answer: Report CPT 00300 (Anesthesia for all procedures on the integumentary system, muscles and nerves of head, neck and posterior trunk, not otherwise specified).

Because these excisions might be superficial, verify whether your physician administered MAC (monitored anesthesia care) during the procedure. If so, follow your carrier's guidelines to determine whether to append modifier QS (Monitored anesthesia care service) to 00300 on the claim.
