Anesthesia Coding Alert

READER QUESTIONS:

Understand Coding TC, Fluoro With Diskography

Question: If the physician performs multiple levels  of diskography, does the facility report the technical component for each level he injected? Can the facility bill fluoroscopy (76000-76005) in addition to the diskography codes?

Georgia Subscriber Answer: Facility coding "mimics" the professional reporting, so yes, you would report each level for the technical component.

Code with either 72285 (Diskography, cervical or thoracic, radiological supervision and interpretation) or 72295 (Diskography, lumbar, radiological supervision and interpretation) for each level the physician injects. Also report injection codes 62290 (Injection procedure for diskography, each level; lumbar) and 62291 (... cervical or thoracic) as appropriate.
