READER QUESTIONS:

Look to 429.3 for Hypertrophy

Question: What diagnosis code should I use for left ventricle hypertrophy? What about left atrium enlargement?

Kansas Subscriber
Answer: You should use 429.3 (Cardiomegaly). The note under this code says it includes cardiac dilatation and hypertrophy, and ventricular dilatation. However, keep in mind that this code excludes these conditions due to hypertension (402.0-402.9).
